What services does Batchelor Library Media Center offer?
|
|
Batchelor Library Media Center exists to support students and teachers with the Batchelor school mission statement. The Media Center operates with as few rules as possible. However, the ones we do have are important. The following are some things students should know:
How can I be respectful in the Media Center?
- Treat the Media Center as another classroom in our school.
- Use the Media Center to read or study.
- Behave in ways that help learning happen. Quiet voices are important.
- Use the library media center books, equipment, and computers with care.
- Learn skills for using the media center.
- Be self-motivated. Stay focused on your school work.
- Leave no messes. Push in chairs, pick up trash, put books away or stack them on the table.
- Reduce distraction and interruption for those students working in the Media Center.
- Enter the Media Center to use the books and computers.
- Do not cut through the media center. It is not a hallway.
- Walk in the halls to get to class or to lunch.

When may I visit the Media Center?
Students may come to the Media Center before school (7:25-7:40 A.M.) with a pass or after school (2:55-3:05 P.M.). During school hours when students come to the Media Center from a class, they must have a signed agenda book pass. When you leave, have your agenda book pass signed before you return to your class. During lunch time students may use the Media Center; however they MUST get a pass from a teacher or a librarian before their lunch period begins. Before leaving the cafeteria, students must show a pass to a cafeteria supervisor. Once in the Media Center, students MUST stay until the end of the lunch period. Students are to enter by the middle doors only (under the clocks). Only teachers are to use the doors at the corners.
How do I check out materials?
Students must take selections to the circulation desk and tell the desk assistant their first and last name in a clear voice. Students assume responsibility for materials checked out. Students may borrow three books at a time. If more than three books are needed at a time, a librarian must give permission. Books check out for three weeks, and it is a good idea for students to return them as soon as they are finished with them. Three books for three weeks. Books may be renewed for an additional three week period as long as they are still being used. Magazines check out for 2 days. All materials must be checked out before leaving the Media Center.
Materials are not to be loaned to a friend. Students are still responsible for materials they check out. Friends may check out materials later.

What about reference materials and magazines?
Reference materials may be checked out overnight, and are due the next morning by 8:00 A.M. They may be returned in the Media Center return slot or dropped in the brown metal book return in the 3rd floor lobby. Students may photocopy magazines and reference materials and magazines if they as needed for class work. To help us save paper, students should be sure to photocopy only what is needed.
May I use computers in the Media Center?
Computers at Batchelor may be used for school purposes only. Teacher permission and supervision is necessary. Computers are to be used to do only what you have been assigned to do. Students should know how many pages to print, and which printer has been selected. Printers are restricted to printing 5 pages.
What if a student has an overdue book? What if a student loses a book?
Students with overdue books will be asked to return these materials before a student can check out more materials from the Media Center. If students have a problem with overdue, missing, or damaged books, they should talk to the librarian. We want students to continue responsible use of library Media Center materials even if they have lost a book. Students are responsible for the replacement cost of materials they check out. Students can pay for lost materials in the library, or you can mail a check payable to Batchelor Middle School.
